So the Florida I.C.E.D. competition also featured a wedding accessories category, so I brought along 2 gum paste stilettos (of course!)
I like how this one came out, even though it didn't win anything:
I ordinarily write my name on the label, but to keep it more anonymous, I drew the tattoo I have on my foot (in slightly different colors) as a signature and just put a little 'R'.
This other gum paste stiletto I made came in 2nd runner up in the professional division:
I opted to try a floating criss-cross ankle strap, and to add to the technical difficulty, I piped strings across the toe straps with royal icing.
If I had it to do over again, I think I would have only entered one accessory so that I wouldn't have had to rush and I could have put more detail or other pieces onto the board, but hind sight is 20-20 like that. :)
Both shoes are GORGEOUS. I love the one with the flowers. Really nice job.

Gorgeous!!!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Roxanne, I think you should design shoes on the side. I always want to wear your gum paste stilettos! They're gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteTamera :)
Dear Roxanne,
ReplyDeleteYour bridal gown-inspired wedding cake completely blew me away when I first saw it. Every aspect of it is very very beautiful and seemingly "perfect".
The string work is so well done it's hard to believe you could do that freehand. CONGRATULATIONS!!! on winning 2nd Runner-Up in the Professional Division! And you've been doing cakes for less than 2 years?
While studying for your Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech?
And skiing in Colorado with your Dad? You could give Time Management courses on the side ... in your spare time. LOL
And CONGRATULATIONS!!! also for winning 2nd Runner-Up in the
Professional Division for your lovely Stiletto which has a certain sophistocated air of restraint to it. I remember your lovely foot tat; I put it on my puppy Apple's forehead. Will send pic separately.
When is the next competition? Uncle GolfNut and I will be cheering
for you!!!
Love,
Aunt Wombat
Beautiful! and congratulations!
